God’s greatest work in my life has often come through broken blessings. Things that I thanked God for at one time, things I called “blessings” ( jobs, relationships, and successes), I now look back on many of these things and wonder if I’d been better off without them in my life?
In 2 Corinthians 9:8 Paul says:
“And God is able to Bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need you will abound in every good work.”
We often call something a blessing that falls into a category we would label “good”. Things that hurt and cause pain, we usually do not label a blessing in the moment. Paul reminds us that a blessing is not something that makes us feel good, or helps us accomplish our personal agenda. A blessing is that which equips us to do the work of God’s Kingdom, “every good work”.
Some of the experiences in life that have equipped me the best are those things I tried to avoid, things that caused pain, embarrassment or shame. I tried to fix these things quickly, push them away or pretend they were not happening, however they were truly blessings of God when I remember want a blessing is.
A blessing is not something that makes your life more comfortable, a blessing is that which makes your life more useful in God’s Kingdom!
So that “broken blessing” you are trying to glue back together…let God have his way and use it to prepare you to do “every good work”. This present heart-ache may be the biggest blessing of your life!
Have a fantastic weekend! Let’s talk again on Monday! If I can do anything for you, please do not hesitate to ask. You are continually in my prayers.
