So, every week we get a fresh start! What do you have planned for the week? For most of us, our answers would fall into two categories; things I must do and things I would like to do. I must go to work; I would like to go to Disney with my family. We usually put up with the things we must do in order to find fulfillment in the things we want to do.
Oswald Chambers in his devotional, “My Utmost for His Highest”, says this today:
The more you fulfill yourself the less you will seek God. “…seek, and you will find….” Get to work— narrow your focus and interests to this one thing. Have you ever sought God with your whole heart, or have you simply given Him a feeble cry after some emotionally painful experience? “…seek, [focus,] and you will find….” (June10 selection)
So, is he saying we should never do anything we enjoy? I don’t think so. Chambers is reminding us it is very easy to get the cart before the horse, to act on our desires with out knowing God’s.
What is our intentionality in seeking God? Do we yearn to hear His voice, to follow His lead? Or is our to-do list already way too full and laid in concrete, unable to make any adjustments? We miss the greatest opportunities in life, God’s opportunities, when we order our day and asking him to bless it, instead of listening to God and asking Him to order our day! Why not take a few minutes right now, take a short walk and a deep breath, and seek Him with your whole life! Let Him put order to the week!
Have a great day! I’m praying for you and let’s talk in the AM!
