Why did I go to College, get married, have kids, and buy a house? When all those things occurred, I called them blessings of God! I said to anyone who asked that God had directed me in each of these decisions and endeavors? I’ve been thinking what is the difference between God’s direction and seeking “the pattern of this world” what our culture would call “normal”? Do I call the pattern of this World a blessing to feel better about it!
In Romans 12:2 Paul says,
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Is it possible that we have been so nurtured in “the pattern of the world” (even the church pattern of the world) that we can miss the will of God? I’ve often wondered what church Jesus would attend if he lived on the earth? I’ve concluded He wouldn’t. I believe he would meet with believers and prepare themselves through worship and prayer for God’s assignments. I’m not sure it would have to be on a Sunday Morning, in theater style seats. Yet the church today finds this normal and right, without it you might not even be having church. Is a huge crowd on Sunday in a church a blessing, or seeking after the pattern of this world? I am sure there is not one right answer to this question, but the book of Roman’s teaches us that it is when we stop seeking the pattern of this world and renew our mind, then we will know the will of God. What does it look like to renew our mind? I’d like to look at that together this week.
For today join me in thinking on this question, is what I am doing seeking after the pattern of this World? It is time to renew our minds, to think differently! Let’s talk again tomorrow!
