Dear Friends,
In a couple of weeks we will celebrate the greatest day in history! The Resurrection of Jesus Christ changed EVERYTHING! I want to invite you to a very special trio of services.
First, Palm Sunday, March 16. This is the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem and the people shouted Hosanna! WHAT A DAY! The only problem was - their God was too small.
Many of us live life with the same issue, our god is too small. What happens when you live with a god that is too small? The main thing is we fail to experience the fullness of God in our lives. On Palm Sunday, we will unpack this reality together.
Secondly, Good Friday, March 21 at 7 p.m. We will have a time of worship, contemplation, and communion, as we focus on the greatest act of love known to mankind. This is a service that every adult or young person will find meaningful in their journey with Jesus!
Finally, Easter Sunday morning at 10 a.m. We will let the celebration begin! Plan to bring the neighborhood as we worship a God who is alive! This will be a service that is full of surprises, worship and powerful teaching from God's Word. Invite the family over and bring them to church!
Make this Easter season special as we celebrate the change that Jesus has made in our lives!
See you on Sunday,

Scott Welch, Senior Pastor

Bible Basics - March 8
|
You no longer have to be embarrassed about not knowing the Bible. In four short hours, Scott will have you feeling comfortable about your Bible knowledge. You will learn the story of the Bible, how we got the book and how to find a verse it. Every person attending will get a notebook, put together by Scott, that will help you find and understand things in the Bible forever.
This event is designed for anyone from student through adult. There is also a special program for children of the parents who attend, so they too can learn about the Bible.
The cost is $10 a person or $20 for the entire family. Scholarships are available for those who may desire to attend, but are unable to afford it.
Do not wait!!! Bible Basics is open to the first 35 people who sign up! It all takes place on Saturday, March 8 from 8 a.m. to noon. Hope to see you there! |

This summer - June 8-13 - FreshStart is hosting a Royal Family Kids Camp, a camp for the abused, abandoned and neglected children. This camp is one of approximately 160 worldwide, created to assist the hurting children as they begin the journey of healing.
Royal Family is a week long faith based camp dedicated in creating positive memories in the lives of abused children. FreshStart will be working with the foster care system in allowing these children to experience a true "summer vacation," where we will share God's love with them as they experience fun things, such as boating, fishing, crafts and much more - things that all children want to experience.
FreshStart is offering $20 Cruise Raffle tickets to raise the funds needed for our Royal Family Camp. The sale of these raffle tickets will begin March 2 and continue thru April, with the drawing held May 2. Get your tickets today! Take some tickets to work and to your neighbors and help us raise money for this worthy cause!
If you would like more information about Royal Family, or if you are interested in being involved with our camp in some capacity, please call or e-mail Kathy Winstead at the church office, 813-813-1128; kathy@freshstartchurch.com. |

Managing Conflict - Part 2
This month, I want us to consider some of the assumptions about conflict.
1. Conflict is a natural phenomenon and is therefore inevitable.
Conflict arises in part because all of us perceive people and situations differently. These different perceptions allow for different opinions and choices which can cause conflict.
Conflict is inevitable between people who care about each other and want to develop a deeper relationship. In Christian marriage, for example, conflict, with its demand for confession, forgiveness, and reconciliation, is a means God employs to teach humility.
2. Conflict involves personal values and needs.
Every human being has some very basic needs. The most basic are the need to love and be loved, and the need to feel worthwhile.
There are also our safety needs, our need for love and belongingness and the need for self-worth. Physiological needs are those necessary to maintain human life, such as food, water, oxygen, and rest. Safety needs include a lifestyle that provides structure rather than disorder, protection and avoidance of danger.
The need for love includes a desire for affectionate relationships with people.
3. Conflicts usually emerge as a symptom.
When people find themselves in conflict, they usually have some need that is unfulfilled. Resolving the conflict may not solve the problem. It is better to look below the symptom, discover what need the person is striving to fulfill, and resolve that rather than the symptom only.
4. Most conflict is not dealt with openly, because most people have not been taught effective ways of resolving conflict.
When a major conflict arises, people tend to avoid it because they have not learned how to deal with minor problems.
5. Conflict provides opportunity for growth in a relationship.
Conflict is like dynamite. It can be helpful if used in the right way, but it can also be destructive if used at the wrong time or in the wrong manner. Facing conflict is also a way of testing one's own strength and resources.
6. Unresolved conflicts interfere with growth and satisfying relationships.
Barriers are erected when conflicts are not resolved. We tend to become defensive in order not to be hurt. A defensive reaction places a strain upon any relationship.
Next month we will consider how to manage conflicts well.
